We are committed to not only provide an unmatched experience to members and guests, but to help make others' lives better by giving back to the community. Over the last few years, we have organized several golf events to raise nearly $50,000 toward local and national causes.
2010 Marathon Golf Day to Benefit Children in Need
On September, 17, 2010, Jim Schouller and Brian Boggs played 200 holes, as their efforts and the contributions of our members raised $7,000 for Children in Need.
Children in Need is a local nonprofit organization that supplies essential clothing, personal care items, and educational supplies to all Washington County children that need those items.
Playing from 7 AM to 7:15 PM, Schouller and Boggs combined to make 53 birdies and 4 eagles over the course of their 11+ rounds.
Turkey Shoot Food and Clothing Drive
In 2009 we added a new component to our annual November golf tournament. The members who participated (pictured above) brought in over 1000 pounds for Hagerstown's Food Bank Warehouse and over 600 articles of clothing for the Life House Clothes Closest.
Marathon Golf Day to Benefit CASA
In May 2009, Golf Professionals Jim Schouller and Brian Boggs played golf from sunrise to sunset in a fundraiser for CASA, a local non-profit organization that provides professional services to victims and family members of domestic disputes and sexual assualts.
This event raised $5,000. Over 100 members sponsored Jim and Brian. Most sponsor amounts were determined by how many holes they played and how many birdies each made throughout the day. Jim and Brian played a remarkable 150 holes, as other golfers allowed them to play through so that they could maintain their pace of less than 90 minutes per 18-hole round.
Tiger Woods Foundation and AT&T National Volunteering
When the AT & T National became a PGA Tour event at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., in 2007, we began an annual raffle with all proceeds going to the Tiger Woods Foundation. We have sold raffle tickets at $200 per ticket, with the winner getting an awesome package that included a round of golf at Congressional, a limousine trip to the golf tournament, dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and tickets to the tournament. Since 2007, we have given over $25,000 to the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Additionally, Fountain Head was selected to marshall the 10th hole for the 2009 tournament. Based on the efforts of our members, who put in hundreds of hours of service helping with the tournament, the tournament directors awarded Fountain Head $25,000 to give to charity for being the best marshalling club!
In January 2010, that money was given to seven different charities within the United Way of Washington County.
Golfing for the Gulf
When Hurricane Katrina crippled New Orleans in September 2005 and left thousands of people homeless, Fountain Head wanted to do something to help.
We organized a charity golf tournament in October in which members and guests could organize their foursome, with all the proceeds from the predetermined entry fees going directly to the recovery efforts in New Orleans. Despite terrible weather conditions that included a steady rain throughout the day, we still had nearly 100 players brave the elements to raise $10,000 for the Hurricane Katrina victims.
